Cat Diary: Piecat's Rainy Window Seat

It rained all day at the bakery. Most of the cats grumbled. Piecat, who has the widest smile in the whole bakery, simply smiled a little wider.
7am. Rain on the windows and leaves swirling down the street. Piecat checked the cooling rack by the back door, as usual, but the breeze was far too wet for pies today. A change of plan was needed.
8.30am. The new plan: the window seat. Piecat dragged over the knitted cushion, settled in with a mug of tea and watched the raindrops race each other down the glass.
10am. Muffincat came in soaked from the doorstep, looking very sorry indeed. Piecat shuffled up on the cushion without a word and sat beside Muffincat until the drips stopped and the grumbling did too. That is what Piecat does on a bad day: sits with you until it isn't one.
12.30pm. The oven timer was ticking for the lunchtime pies. Piecat hummed along to it, then went to count the lattice strips on every pie, just to check they had been done properly. They had. Piecat was twice as pleased about it as the baker.
2pm. Pancakecat whispered a plan for a surprise autumn picnic for Cookiecat on Saturday, and asked Piecat to keep it a secret. Piecat tried very hard. Unfortunately, that grin gave the game away almost at once, and Cookiecat guessed before teatime.
4pm. The lamp went on and the leaves outside glowed orange in the light. Piecat curled up on the cushion again with a fresh mug of tea, a few cherries peeping through the lattice and not a care in the world.
Piecat's verdict on the day: rain outside, friends inside. The perfect recipe for a cosy afternoon.
Come and meet Piecat properly, the friend in every group who remembers your birthday, or bring that smile home with the Piecat T-shirt from the shop.
